REMIXED is an immersive listening party, performed across geography and time in a collective experience. Together, we travel down the spine of change, connected by our custom-built app, the portal into the performance.
Five years in the making, REMIXED gathers true stories of transformation from all over the globe in a personal and multi-faceted meditation on how we instigate change in our lives, in our communities, and in the world. These pivotal moments are as different as the people who lived them, yet threads of
connection emerge. Our experiences of change divide and connect us. In REMIXED, we’re listening for the sound of change.
The performance begins with playful questions that reveal the audience member’s relationship to change and feeds our purpose-build algorithm, generating the centrepiece of REMIXED: a personalized playlist that weaves together true stories of change with music and narrative prompts. The playlist is tailored to complement and complicate, bringing audiences to storytellers around the globe. Each track brings listeners to a storyteller; tucked into kitchens, cozy in living rooms, and overlooking parks, they evoke a sense of place, space, and ethereal presence. Juxtaposing the personal with the collective and the systemic, our polyphonic choir entangles listeners, asking: what are you willing to do to make change in our world?
REMIXED is a hybrid performance that can be experienced at-home or in-person. The at-home version is a playful intersection of local geography and digital experience. An installation kit of party supplies is dropped off at each listener’s home via contactless delivery on the day of the performance. Inside is a card with a peat pellet and seeds. During the performance, listeners pour water on the pellet and watch it slowly expand. As they reflect on a change they’d like to make and listen to a song they love, they plant the seed. This process offers a subtle visualization of change listeners can keep, a physical marker of our digital experience. The seeds are chosen in consideration of their individual symbolic and biological properties and the listeners’ geographic areas.
REMIXED’s in-person version takes place in an immersive environment in which audiences sit together while listening to their playlists, surrounded by glowing kinetic sculptures in continual transformation. Projection and lighting visually guide the stories, creating a heightened and collective experience. Responsive, playful, and ever-changing, the space breathes a life of its own, shaped by those in the room. Personal change is intricately linked with societal change, and each element of the performance creates subtle opportunities for interaction and connection. The installation’s movements conceal and reveal audience members, playing with public and private and creating a space of possibility.

Bringing together collaborators and stakeholders across disciplines, we create porous work that’s rooted in our city and tours internationally. Our performances and installations combine principles from visual art, performance art, theatre, and social practice. The resulting pieces are personal and participatory, yet open-ended for audiences to experience on whatever level they feel most comfortable. We believe in agency, dissensus, and choice, creating spaces where audiences choose how they interact with the piece, and where their actions directly impact the experience. Our work is characterized by modularity and scalability.
