Laurel Green
Laurel Green (she/her) is an adventurous dramaturg, interdisciplinary collaborator, and creative producer of new work. She is Canadian and Australian and, as a descendant of British settlers, is grateful to live and work in communities across Turtle Island while continuing to learn how to be a good visitor on these lands. Laurel is deeply engaged with process, exploring new methodologies for creation, and strategies for shared leadership. She designs invitations to participate and provocations for change: from the world premiere of over a dozen new plays to performance installations, gameful experiences, digital placemaking, and secret backyard shows. As an artist and community activator, Laurel was named to Avenue Magazine Calgary’s Top 40 Under 40.
Laurel holds a Masters degree from the University of Toronto, is a performance researcher with the University of Victoria and guest lecturer at York University. She was the former Festival Producer for One Yellow Rabbit’s High Performance Rodeo, and spent seven seasons as Dramaturg and Artistic Associate for new play development at Alberta Theatre Projects. A long-time member of the LMDA (Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas), she helped launch the International Dramaturgy Lab.
Recent artistic collaborations include: POLLINATORS participatory gardening installation series, asses.masses a video game for the stage about sharing the load of revolution, Remixed, an App-based algorithm and immersive change listening party, Evidence of a Human Occurrence, a crowd-sourced narrative photography project, and the table-top role playing game/idea incubator FARCE (Fictional Arts: Reimagining Creative Ecosystems) commissioned by CAPACOA. Laurel directed the world premiere of WROL (Without Rule of Law) published by Playwrights Canada Press.
Laurel has designed, built, and activated virtual gatherings, symposiums, and grassroots working groups for festivals, arts companies, and community organizations including: Playwrights Canada Press, Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Kingston Arts Council, Wellspring, SummerWorks, Pat the Dog Theatre Creation, and FOLDA (Festival of Live Digital Arts).
