A dance for survival. A manifesto of resurgence. A story-seed that begins with ceremony at the water. Four, seven, seven thousand women gather to remember what is coming. Their bodies dream the sacred, and with their audience, prophesy the future we need.
“Bii’ is a prefix, a future tense; the future is coming towards us, at us, at that moment when the sunlight first comes above the horizon; full anticipation of the future; you can see the whole picture. ‘Daa’ is a word for home; the present; the exactly right now. It is a verb for living in a certain place, or in the present. ‘Ban’ is a suffix that we add to someone’s name after they have passed; it is used for when something doesn’t exist.” - Leanne Simpson, Anishinaabe.
